BSNL 3G

This is a big surprise from BSNL they have just launched a new unlimited data plan for 3G users where you can get a unlimited 3G data plan for just Rs 700 / month this is phenomenal coz just about 2 months ago the unlimited 3G data plan for prepaid customers was Rs 2,756 /mo which was brought down to Rs 1,499 / month but there is a catch in this special 3G offer read more to find out.
Looks like BSNL is peeping up the 3G wars before private operators are going to launch there 3G services with the new 3G tariffs you can get unlimited data package  for Rs 700 / month if you prepay for Rs 4,200 which has a validity for 6 months effectively getting you 3G unlimited data package for just Rs 700 / month, but this offer is valid only for 90 days from Nov 1, 2010 listed below are the other special festival packages.
Bsnl 3G unlimited special plans

The other great thing about BSNL 3G unlimited plans is that there is no FUP (Fair usage policy) with these unlimited plan its truly unlimited and at Rs 700 / month it’s a steal, do let me warn you a bit about 3G broadband as this is a wireless connection do not expect consistent speeds like your wired broadband the  speed of 3G varies a lot due to a lot of parameters but you should get between .7 – 2 Mbps on a average, I have seen burst speeds of around 5 Mbps with BSNL 3G so if there are very few users in your area using 3G you will get very high speeds, also do remember that there are no roaming charges with BSNL 3G so you can use this connection across the country.

Also  during this special offer period you can also get some discount on the 3G data cards that are being offered via BSNL, but in my opinion its better to buy data cards from outside as it wont be locked to BSNL sim cards, as other private operators are on the verge of launching 3G services in India and it’s a better idea to get  a unlocked 3G data card so that if you need to migrate to  other providers you can do so  also do opt for the 7.2 Mbps data card model to future proof your investment as I am sure private players will launch speeds 3G speeds upto 7.2 Mbps also in some areas of the BSNL 3G  has towers have been upgraded to 7.2 Mbps.

Benefit Of Data card 3G USB Modem

If you want to use your 3G broadband connection with your laptops or desktops the most ideal way is to use a 3G usb dongle popularly known as 3G data card not only is this a easy and portable way to use 3G, these data card generally provide a bit faster speeds than using your mobile phones to tethering your 3G connections, you should know that there are a lot of different data cards available in the market and not all of them are the same, In this article I would list the important things that you need to look while purchasing a 3G data card.
The easiest way to get a data card is to purchase one while getting a 3G data sim from BSNL itself. BSNL is selling a couple of data cards on it’s site and they are attractively priced, but the problem with these data cards is that they are locked with BSNL so for example in your decide to put another ISP sim card in these cards it would not work, if you are planning to stick with BSNL go ahead and buy a data card from Bsnl go for the 7.2 Mbps models.
I prefer to use a unlocked data card as this would allow me to use any SIM card with the data card (If you prefer to move from BSNL 3G to private providers like Airtel, Aircel, Docomo etc I would just need to swap the SIM card and I am good to go with an unlocked data card.)
The other things to look in the data card is the download speed and the upload speeds, budget data cards have a max cap of 3.6 Mbps download speeds though BSNL 3G is officially capped to 3.6 Mbps there are reports from certain cities like Bangalore, Chennai where users are getting around 5 Mbps that mean that BSNL 3G network can support upto 7.2 Mbps and it’s a no brainier that private ISP will offer high speeds, also the other thing that is ignored by the users is the upload speed many budget data cards have a upload speed of just 384 kbps where as the better ones are rated at 2 Mbps or greater and even BSNL 3G supports upload speeds upto 2 Mbps.
Apart from the data speed supported by the data card, you should also look at the 3G frequency supported by the card, most budget card are single band and support the 2100 Mhz this is the frequency on which BSNL 3G operates, but there are three other frequencies on which the 3G can operate and I don’t know if other private ISP will use 2100 Mhz or the other 3G frequency the 3G cards that support all the frequency are know as tri band, you should be pretty okay with single band 2100 Mhz frequency as I suspect most of the pvt operators will use that as most of the 3G phones sold in India are using 2100 Mhz but if you want maximum compatibility and roam around the world and would like to use the data card in other countries then a tri band 3G card is that way to go.
Some of the data cards have a connector for attaching an external antenna and if you get a weak signal in your area adding an external antenna to your data card would help but do note that these external antenna’s are not cheap and readily available.
Currently the big problem with 3G USB data cards is that they are not officially available in the retail chain in India and thus you need to get it via ebay.in,  the good thing is that most of the 3G data cards sold via ebay.in are unlocked and I am going to list a few data cards from Huawei and ZTE with their technical specs so that you have a better idea about them, regrading the pricing I am quoting these are just the rough estimated pricing please check the actual pricing before purchase.

BSNL DEEPAVALI OFFER

Telenewz.com - News, views, happenings on the telecom industry

BSNL to offer 3G services in 860 cities by December

4th Nov 2010
Launched 'Pyari Jodi' scheme for fixed line users

New Delhi: BSNL is planning to extend its 3G services to 860 cities from the current 640 cities by the end of this year.
Speaking at an event organised by BSNL, the Minister of State for Communications Sachin Pilot said that the state-run telecom operator would reach out to 120 more cities by December.
BSNL which has 1.7 million 3G users at the end of September is expecting to increase the customer base to 2.5 million by March 2011.
On the eve of Diwali, BSNL also launched a 'Pyari Jodi' offer for its landline customers in which all its existing as well as new landline users would get a free SIM card for BSNL mobile and can make unlimited free local calls to that particular landline number.
The aim of this scheme mainly is to arrest the steep decline of landline users, at the same to boost the mobile subscriber base, Pilot said while launching the scheme.
In the 'Pyari Jodi'offer the customer can also call two BSNL local numbers at a reduced rate of 20 paise per minute and one BSNL number anywhere in India at a reduced rate of 20 paise per minute without paying any additional monthly charges.

BSNL complainants tired of being put on hold

NAGPUR: In BSNL's multi-crore ad campaign,Deepika Padukone smiles pleasantly after using the services of the state-owned telecom company, but the customers are far from being happy. Not only are private users facing inconvenience due to BSNL's glitches, even government offices like the zilla parishad (ZP) are facing problems.

Vice-president of ZP Nitin Rathi installed a BSNLbroadband connection in his office three months ago. He was quite happy with the service for about 15 days. But then, the phone stopped functioning completely. "Despite lodging several complaints in the CTO, nobody has responded. My office boy went there a number of times but they just lie that they'll send some technicians over the next day. But neither has the connection been repaired, nor have the technicians arrived. It seems they are extremely busy promoting new services like 3G rather than improving existing services," said Rathi.

Ravi Nagar resident Devyani Deshmukh lodged a complaint a month ago to change her instrument. "When I first filed the complaint, the custumer care told me that the instruments are not in stock. My landline is not working since a month so I lodged another complaint. I personally went to the CTO to follow it up but got the same reply. Now what is a common citizen supposed to do in such a situation?"

The landline services provided by BSNL is also riddled with complaints from private users. Lawyer Anand Parchure, a resident of Ram Nagar, is so fed up with the service provided by the company that he has filed a notice against BSNL. He has been using a BSNL landline since two decades. In his notice, he points out that his telephone is non-operational since September 1 in spite of registering a complaint about it. The complaint went unheeded, so he filed another complaint after which he was informed that BSNL is facing some 'technical difficulties' and his problem would be resolved soon. He has requested the district manager (telephones) to look into the matter personally, failing which he (Parchure) would claim damages.

PRO of BSNL B C Borkar said that complaints are usually sorted out within 48 hours. "The first step to file any complaint is to dail '198' and register it," he said. "But there are some cases where we are not able to do so. In such a case, the customers can personally contact me through the number given at the back of every bill. I will see to it that the complaint is sorted out once the docket number is provided to me."
